Today I woke up and decided to have some pancakes and recently I picked up a brand call Kodiak Cakes. I’ve seen Kodiak Cakes are shark tank and heard that they’re packed with a lot of protein. I am a creature of habit so I didn’t make the switch right away. After hearing about Kodiak Cakes a few months went by. I saw them at Costco and decided to give them a try because I was out of Bisquick.
After a long run 10-20 mile run on Sundays I love to make a large breakfast with pancake, eggs and veggie sausage. After burning about 2000-2500 calories a lot of fuel is needed to make me whole again. My favorite pancake mix in the past was Bisquick but I was about to try out the protein powered Kodiak Cakes for the first time.
Kodiak Cakes are different from other pancakes. Kodiak Cakes are packed with 14 grams of wheat and whey protein vs 2 grams in the Bisquick. Being an active personal I thought the extra protein would be a plus but how’d the Kodiak Cakes stack up when it comes to taste? I can tell you that the flapjack didn’t disappoint. They tasted better than any pancake mix that I’ve had before.
After a 20-mile run I typically feel hungry about an hour after having breakfast. After having a breakfast with the Kodiak Cakes, I didn’t feel hungry for hours. The slow digestion of the protein was perfect after a long run. It kept me full which prevented me from over eating on the days I was doing a long run.
Here are some reasons why I recommend power cakes is a better flapjack over other brands.
Protein is the building block of tissue in the body. If you’re an active person like myself then you’re likely to be adding protein into every meal. The high amount of protein in Kodiak Cakes allows you to have a smaller meal with the same protein as a bigger one. Kodiak Cakes have 3 power up options that give you the choice of using only water, one egg or one egg with milk. Option one with only water provides 14 grams of protein. Choice two with milk provides 18 grams of protein. Option three with one egg and milk provides 21 grams of protein. After a hard workout, I typically go for the third option because it helps keep my macros on track.

When it comes to pancake mix it’s hard to reinvent the wheel but Kodiak Cakes pulled it off. After having them for the first time I wouldn’t say they taste much better than standard mix that I was used to. I was just so happy to find something that taste so good with such a nutritional punch. I’m happy to see new brands enter a market that is oversaturated. Keeping the taste simple is what keeps me coming back for more Kodiak Cakes. My favorite power cake mix is the buttermilk powder. I have tried the chocolate power cakes mix but I didn’t enjoy the taste as much. The power cakes mix can be used for a variety of items like waffles or pancakes. Sometimes I like to change things up and have some waffles.
I run a personal training company and I have many clients that struggle with staying full. They mess up their diet all the time because they’re too hungry to stay away from all the junk food at work. Most of the time I would recommend having a protein shake or eating more protein for breakfast but they usually wouldn’t listen because of the bad taste of most of the protein powder that’s on the market. For my clients that struggle with hungry and want to eat real food I recommend that they try Kodiak Cakes because they’re low calorie (190 calories per serving) and it keeps them full longer. When my clients stick to a high protein breakfast they lose more body fat and stay on track to hit their fitness goals. Kodiak Cakes taste great so my compliance to eating them is high.
Low or High Calorie Kodiak Cakes
One the best things about kodiak cakes is that you can add milk and eggs to the mix to get more calories if you’re trying to bulk up or you can add water if you’re trying to cut weight. The power cakes mix makes for a versatile tool for your fitness goals. When you add milk and eggs to the mix you’ll end up with a protein packed breakfast. I usually add eggs and milk into the mix when I am in a hard part of a training cycle.
When I looked at the Kodiak Cakes food label I noticed something different over the other brands. The quality is better. They use whole grains and whey protein which is a great choice If you want to stay healthy. Whey protein scores a 100 on the biological value of protein chart. A BV score of 100 means that your body can use almost all of it. After a hard workout, this is important because the goal is to build and repair tissue that has be broken down. Other brands of pancake mix will use white floor which digests very quickly. Kodiak cake uses whole grains which has a slower digestion rate that keeps you feeling full longer. Whole grains also have a higher nutritional value. Whole grains have more B-vitamins and minerals such as iron, selenium and magnesium. White flour does not have a high nutritional value.
Where to buy Kodiak Cakes
I found my Kodiak Cakes at Costco and I have seen boxes at some of my local stores too. Amazon also has Kodiak Cakes for sale. The Costco box is quite big and will last you awhile but Kodiak Cakes have a long shelf life so this shouldn’t be an issue. The price point is around 30 bucks but it’s cheaper than buying protein powder. They have smaller boxes at Amazon that you can try if you don’t want to commit to a large box.
Kodiak Cakes are a great choice to add to your breakfast if you’re a pancake or waffle lover like me. They add a lot of nutritional value to your breakfast and will keep you feeling full all morning. The price point isn’t too bad for what you’re getting. The protein in Kodiak Cakes are great for people that love to workout. Adding Kodiak Cakes to your meal will help you fill out your macro ratios. The taste is great and you will hardly notice a difference when switching to Kodiak Cakes.
