TRX suspension trainer review
If you like to workout at home, you might be interested in using the TRX suspension trainer. The biggest problem with working out at home for my clients is that they don’t have room or money for costly gym equipment in the house. The TRX suspension trainer is designed to be able to do a bunch of workouts in a tight space. Personally, I use the TRX suspension trainer for all the in-home personal training appointments. I would recommend everyone to use to the TRX system for their workout program.
Here are the reasons why I recommend the TRX suspension trainer.
It works the core
When using the TRX system you’ll notice that you feel your core working during every exercise. This is because your suspended using your body weight for the exercise. When you use your body weight it requires your core to engage to keep you stable. The deep core muscles are worked as stabilizers when doing exercises like the push up, row, curls and many others.
If you have a small home or apartment the TRX suspension trainer is wonderful if your goal is to save space. The TRX systems comes with an attachment for the door you only need about 6 feet of clear space in front of the door to get the job done. The TRX system can be used at an angle, if you need to squeeze a movement in this can come in handy. When you’re done with the TRX suspension trainer you can take it down with ease and put it away. The size of the straps is about the same as a pair of jeans bundled up.
Works every muscle group
One of the best things about the TRX suspension trainer is that it can work every muscle group in the body. Instead of having a room full of equipment you can get the TRX system which won’t take up any space at all. You can work the legs, core, arms, chest and back easily with the TRX system. While using the system, you can easily increase or decrease the intensity of the workout by adjusting the angle of the body. You can do multi joint movements or isolation exercises.
The TRX system is safe because you’re not using heavy weight or equipment that may cause injury. I have used this system with clients that are in their 90s and they love it. The reason why it’s safe is that it supports the client by attaching to an anchor keeping you connected to something that doesn’t move. The simple system lets you adjust the resistance by stepping closer or farther away from the anchor point. Keep in mind that you want to start slow and use a mirror to watch your form when starting out. The TRX system comes with a guide on how to use it.
We’ve talked about all the great things the TRX suspension trainer can do but there are some things that it can do. If your goal is to improve maximal strength the TRX system won’t help you because the resistance from the body isn’t enough to get the job done. Using a barbell system is required to improve maximal strength.
One other downside of the TRX system is that it’s hard to measure progress because you’re not using weight as the measurement. When you lift weights it’s easy to add more week after week but the TRX doesn’t do that. You will feel more fit but you won’t have a measurable progress from working with the system.
Last downside is the price. Different TRX systems cost between $100-$150. This can turn a lot of people off but compared to a room of gym equipment it’s a steal. If price is an issue you can find off brand systems but they tend to breakdown much faster.
The Take Away
If you ask me if you should buy the TRX suspension trainer I would say %100 yes. I love the system and it works great with my in-home personal training business. All my clients love the ease of use and they feel like they get a great workout using it.
