With our busy lives eating healthy becomes more challenging. We don’t have time to meal plan or make healthy meals at home. If you’re trying to lose weight or gain muscle eating healthy is a must. We understand that you’re busy and have put together tips to help you reach your fitness goal without all the struggle. Here’s our top tips for healthy eating.
Plan healthy meals that are fast
Running a in home personal training company doesn’t leave me much time. I am always on the go and I get home late at night. My wife is also short on time because of her two jobs. We have come up with a fix for this by using an air fryer and microwavable steamer to get in our veggies. We pick meals that take about 15 minutes to cook which leaves us plenty of time for clean up after our meal is made.
Planning meals that are healthy and fast is easy. All you need to do is pick one veggie, one complex carb and one lean meat. Usually we will add a little low calorie whipped butter to get some fat in our meal.
When I am making breakfast, I make meals that take about 10 minutes because my wife and I are running out the door fast in the morning. I usually make eggs, oats in the microwave, coffee and have flaxseed meal with some berries in my oats. The key to cooking breakfast fast is timing. I start the coffee while the pan heats up for the eggs (if eggs aren’t your thing, there are plenty of tasty breakfast ideas available without eggs). When the eggs start cooking I get my oats ready for the microwave with all the things I plan I add to the bowl. I heat my oats when my eggs are half cooked so that I have time to add the berries and flax seed meal. This timing allows me to make a fast breakfast.
When eating out go healthy
With the market shifting to healthy eating it’s never been easier to pick healthy choices while eating out. Restaurants like cava and Mezeh are great choices if you’re looking to eat healthy because most of their food has low calorie option that leaves you feeling full. If you don’t have one of these by your work you should go on a mission to find the healthiest choices near you. Eating healthy is something you need to be proactive about.
Pack your lunch
9 times out of 10 I pack my own lunch because this saves me money and time. Being a in home personal trainer has me on the road a lot and this leaves limited choices for healthy eating. When I don’t pack my lunch, I tend to eat unhealthy and if I keep it up it shows in the midsection. Usually I pack A PB&J with high fiber bread, yogurt, nuts, fruit and a veggie/berry smoothie. All the foods in my bag are high quality and keep me full so I don’t snack on unhealthy foods during the day. Packing your lunch puts you in control of what you’re eating and saves you money.
Keep the unhealthy foods out of the home
This tip is the most important one. Keep unhealthy items out of your home because it will tempt you. If you don’t believe me wait until the holidays. You will see how you feel when family give you a bunch of cookies and snacks that are unhealthy. If you want to eat something that is unhealthy have it at the end of a cheat meal while you’re eating out just don’t have it in the home. Focus on having veggies, fruit, lean meats, some dairy and whole grains as staples in the home.
