The Right Punching Gloves for Your Muay Thai Class

The Right Punching Gloves for Your Muay Thai Class

Posted by David Nickum Uncategorized

Want to take up a martial art, and considering Muay Thai, you certainly would need to find out all you need to begin. While you will need to be part of a Thai boxing gym to learn the basics, you also want to familiarize yourself with some of the basics before joining a gym.

For most people, martial art should have been done with the ages of dinosaurs and landlines, but the truth is that you can still find people who are fans of ancient practices. Interested in learning Thai boxing, but don’t know if you need punching gloves of how to prepare? You can find out precisely in the next sections.

What is Muay Thai?

Of course, you know it must have to do with Thailand. And while you are not far from the truth, it has long moved past the shores of the Asian country. It is the national competition of Thailand and is a form of martial art that involves a lot of kicking with the legs. The link here https://www.muaythaicitizen.com/beginners-guide-to-muay-thai/ has more about the origin of the sport.

Most people liken it to kickboxing, but it is entirely different from it. It is a common sport among men, but you can find women also engaging in the sport. While it used to be people of Asian descent, you see in studios overseas, that has quickly changed over the years. You can even find gyms with trainers who are not from Thailand.

Should you Take Thai Boxing Lessons?

Why should you even give it a thought you may ask. Nothing is stopping you and no one holding a gun to your head to be part of a fitness or martial art class. But imagine an instance where you have a gun pointed to your head, and you know a few martial art moves to overpower your assailant. Indeed, you wouldn’t want to go down without a fight. And that’s one thing about martial arts; it prepares you for all of life’s battles.

So if you are looking to take up a new challenge, learn something new, stay in shape, or any of such, you would benefit from joining a kickboxing gym. While Muay Thai requires a great deal of discipline, learning the basics and perfecting them is something anyone can do with proper training.

Getting Started

You will have to have all the essentials required for joining a gym. For Thai boxing, you will need to be kitted differently from your regular fitness wear. While you will need to wear comfortable and breathable wear, you want to protect yourself adequately to prevent or reduce injuries during practice.

It is a long list of essentials for a timeout at the gym, but for Thai boxing, some of the things you have to have in your bag when you show up for training include.

  • Shorts and Tops (must be able to absorb water)
  • Gloves
  • Ankle guard to protect the ankles
  • Armguard (you can use a cloth wrap to help keep your arm from injury during combat)
  • Shin guard
  • Mouth guard

You will need guards around your ankle, arm, shin, and mouth to protect them from damage when practicing. While your outfit has to be light and allow for free movement, one other essential gear you want to get right is your gloves.

Why you Need Punching Gloves for Muay Thai

The Right Punching Gloves for Your Muay Thai Class

Thai boxing requires special gloves, and most people don’t know this. It could take a serious search to find the right one for you, and you can save yourself the stress if you know where to buy pro gloves. When it comes to the best Muay Thai boxing gloves, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

You can find gloves that are available in different sizes, so you must get the ones that fit right. This allows for a tight grip when you strike a punch or block one. If you are shopping online, it may be best to test your size fitting with those for boxing or any other you can find. Not sure why you need gloves, you can check my top reasons for using one below.

Protect the Fist

You’ll agree that it will hurt to strike a punch with your naked fist. So a glove provides you with a shock absorber that reduces the impact when you attack or defend yourself. Keeping your arms free is also essential, so when selecting the right option for you, ensure that it allows easy movement inside the fabric.

Reduce Damage

You could inflict severe injuries to your opponent if you choose to fight bare-handed, so except you are out to inflict damage, you want to practice with gloves on. Most of the gloves in the market are laden with foam or cushion to reduce the impact of a direct punch.

Choosing the Right Thai Boxing Gloves

It will be best to walk into a sports supply store and check out the ones they offer. This is better than having to rely on luck when you shop online. You get to test for fitting at the store and gain first-hand knowledge of the material quality.

If you have to use the web, you want to check through reviews and see what others have to say about the market’s best options. You should also check that there accept returns if you have issues with the gloves when it arrives. You can find more here on the basics of Muay Thai and all the required skillset.

Another thing you want to consider is how much you are willing to spend on boxing gloves. They are celebrity brands that can be pricey for a newbie, but you can indeed find one that will be within your budget range. Some of the gyms around sell supplies or could help you narrow down the best one for you.

Final Note

Thai boxing requires comfortable and fitting gloves. They also have to be lighter on the swerve, so it is not best to use regular boxing gloves when it comes to this particular type of martial art.
