Healthy Juicing – 3 Green Smoothies Recipes for After Workout

The moment you hear the words “green smoothie”, your mind immediately conjures up an image of a glass filled with a lumpy green liquid that probably tastes as bitter as gourd.

Did we hit the nail on the head?

It doesn’t necessarily have to be this way!

With the right ingredients, a green smoothie can be tasty and fulfilling at the same time. Just because it’s called a green smoothie, doesn’t mean it only has to have vegetables in it.

Why Have a Post-Workout Green Smoothie?

Coming straight to the point – After an exhausting cardio session, your body needs all the nutrients, electrolytes, and protein that it lost in sweat. These deplete reservoirs are what this smoothie fill up.

A post-workout smoothie needs to have specific ingredients, so that you are not just loading up on wasted calories and added sugar. For example, coconut water is a great source of electrolytes, spinach boosts energy, ginger relieves muscle soreness, chia seeds improve bone health, berries help fight inflammation, etc. The list is quite long and the benefits are plenty.

The following are three healthy green smoothie recipes for post-workout:

Green-O-Lada

This post-workout green smoothie adds a refreshing touch to the drink with fresh pineapple. Combined with coconut water, its taste is somewhat similar to a piña colada.

Ingredients

  • Banana: 1
  • Ginger: 1 inch slice
  • Baby Spinach: ½ cup
  • Pineapple Chunks: 1 cup
  • Coconut Water: ½ cup
  • Almond Milk: ½ cup
  • Chia Seeds: 1 tablespoon

Directions

  • Add all the ingredients in a mixer and blend for a few seconds, until the mixture becomes smooth
  • Pour the smoothie in a glass and top with more chia seeds, if desired

Note: If you feel the smoothie is too thick, add more coconut water in it.

The Ultimate Post-Workout Green Smoothie

This powerhouse green smoothie contains collagen, which not only relieves joint pain but also increases muscle mass and at the same time, helps with weight loss.

Ingredients

  • Water: 2 cups
  • Baby Spinach: 2 cups
  • Banana: 1
  • Green Apple: 1
  • Avocado: ¼
  • Collagen Powder: 2 tablespoon
  • Protein Powder: 2 tablespoon
  • Chia Seeds: 2 tablespoon

Directions

  • Add all the ingredients in a mixer and blend for a few seconds on high speed
  • Pour the smoothie in a bottle, add ice, and shake well for a chilled drink

Berry Superfood Smoothie

This berry superfood post-workout green smoothie is like a soothing balm that will improve your endurance every day. As mentioned earlier, berries fight inflammation, which means a glass of this smoothie every day, will help you exercise better and longer.

Ingredients

  • Coconut Water: ½ cup
  • Greek Yogurt: ½ cup
  • Strawberries: ½ cup
  • Blueberries: ½ cup
  • Raspberries: ½ cup
  • Chia Seeds: ¼ cup
  • Spinach: 1 cup
  • Banana: ½

Directions

  • In an ice tray, pour coconut water and freeze
  • Add all the other ingredients in a mixer and blend for a few seconds
  • Add a coconut water ice cubes and blend for a few seconds more until the ice crushed

Note: If you feel the smoothie is too thick, pour it in a shaker, add more coconut water ice cubes and shake well before drinking.
