Physical Exercise and Anxiety

Physical Exercise and Anxiety

How to Overcome the Fear of Fitness

There are studies which guarantee physical exercise as the solution to anxiety and stress related issues. It’s said that physical movement, and regular fitness activities increase the production of feel good hormones in the body causing great stress relief – making us feel better. But what if there were people who actually have a fear of fitness itself? That there are people who panic, stress out and may even suffer from anxiety attacks at the mere thought of beginning a fitness journey.

Don’t be so surprised. While a novel concept, it is actually quite true – and it’s not just gym anxiety either. It’s true, honest to goodness fear of working out. And if you are one of those who suffer from fitness anxiety – this blog here, is to tell you exactly what you can do to overcome it.

Find an Exercise You Enjoy

Everyone can agree working out is miserable, especially when you’re still in the initial phases of your fitness journey. But exercising to get into shape and following through until you do only happens when you’re doing something that makes the misery worthwhile. Don’t like the idea of running on a machine in a confined room, grab your sneakers and head out to the park. Like the water? Take up swimming. Think you’d enjoy yoga, take a one-on-one class with an expert instructor. Experiment and try different things until you find the one exercise that makes you feel a little less miserable than all the rest, and stick to that.

Begin Small

Often the fear of working out stems from realizing the sheer magnitude of effort that you have to put in to reach a goal that seems completely unattainable. Begin small. Start with the mere basics instead of opting for highly intense classes or activities that will make you want to run, run far away from a gym, never to return.

Start From Home

While we’re not discounting the real fear of physical exercise that some people have, often times we’ve found that the fear of the gym, of people, of public failure, of the stimulating environment, the judgmental looks, is projected onto the fear of working out until one manages to convince themselves that this is something they can never do.

Instead of venturing into a gym, terrified and unwilling with a completely negative mindset, why not just hire a personal instructor that will not only cater individually to you and get rid of all those fears entirely? A personal instructor will also tailor the workout regimen to suit your fitness requirements and needs after thoroughly assessing them to ensure the best possible results, at your pace. Be Safe

Another factor that prevents people from realizing their fitness dreams is the fear of injury. No one really likes to be hurt, do they? And when you’re unsure of the environment you’re venturing into, your mind can conjure up all sorts of horrible injuries and accidents. Eliminate the possibly of that completely by opting for an exercise routine under the strict care and guidance of a physical fitness expert – one that can ascertain your safety throughout your fitness journey.
