HIIT vs. LISS: Which Should You Go For?

HIIT vs. LISS: Which Should You Go For?

Posted by David Nickum Exercise, Personal Training, Weight Loss

If you’re a beginner in the world of fitness, you likely keep hearing the words HIIT and LISS, and have no idea what they mean. Especially online, you’ll read these words a lot when selecting workout plans for yourself. This blog is here to rid you of your confusion and provide some clarity about HIIT and LISS workouts, and which you should choose to do depending on your circumstances.

What are HIIT and LISS?

HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training, whereas LISS stands for Low Intensity Steady State. So generally, HIIT workouts are more intense and LISS workouts tend to be calmer and steadier. Some examples of HIIT workouts are small sprints (for 10–30 seconds), jump squats, burpees, and other exercises that really get your heart beating fast in a small amount of time. Some examples of LISS workouts are steady brisk walks, hiking, cycling at a constant speed, or using the elliptical. These generally take longer and are bound to work up a sweat.

Why Should I Do HIIT?

Short, quick sprints, a common form of HIIT.

There are many reasons you may want to opt for HIIT workouts instead of LISS workouts. If your fitness is at an intermediate level instead of a beginner, we’d recommend HIIT workouts. Of course, beginners can do them too, but they tend to be very exhausting and can be quite demotivating if you don’t have the strength to complete them.

HIIT workouts also help you burn fat faster and can also build lean muscle. If you have only a short amount of time to work out every day, for example 10 minutes, we’d recommend HIIT workouts for better results in a lower time frame.

Why Should I Do LISS?

If you’re a beginner, just getting into fitness, we’d suggest you start with LISS workouts. LISS workouts are also good if you have an hour a day to dedicate to working out and enjoy the outdoors. If you practice intermittent fasting, LISS is a great idea. Fasted cardio is known to help burn fat fast. So, when you wake up in the morning, you can go for a 45-minute walk around your block before breakfast. This is bound to help you reach your goal weight quicker and you can also exercises That Help Reduce Belly Fat

What he brings to any workout program is a deep understanding of anatomy, nutrition, and exercise physiology. His programs are unique, innovative, educational, and customized to get the job done quickly. He is a cutting edge professional who builds a program that fits your individualized goals. Starting out in the field of automotive technology industry, David had a lot of problems with pain in the lower back. This led him to the world of health and wellness. David was tired of getting prescribed pills to address his problems and he knew that physical therapy would only be a short-term fix, so he decided to learn about the human body to fix the problem on his own. Being a musician has helped David to also apply an artistic approach to health and wellness. He always told me; “exercise is an art just as much as a science”, he was right, every human is different and needs an artistic touch to get the most out of a workout. Throughout his career, David has developed a deep understanding about the human body. He started out only knowing the basics. Seven years later he has become a leader in the field of fitness, he designed his own style of training which works on posture, metabolism, pain management, and performance. After working with David my life has never been better, the pain in my body is gone for the first time in 10 years. After only 6 months of training I feel like a new person. I feel and look the best I have in years. He gave me the education and the tools I needed to prevent failure in the future. He gave me a new lease on life and I am thankful for that everyday.
