Many of the people I meet that are interested in trying in home personal training ask me if they need any equipment before getting started and my answer is usually no. Some clients may need to get equipment depending on their goals but for the most part the personal trainer will bring the equipment with them. Most of my clients are surprised by this and ask me how we will get so much done with a little amount of equipment?
I explain to my clients that there is a lot of things we can do without lifting heavy weights, bulky machines and cardio equipment. When visited with clients for a personal training session I only bring what I can carry in my hands. After every session, my clients feel like they get a better workout than they do at the gym.
Here is the favorite exercise equipment used by in home personal trainers.
TRX suspension trainer system
The TRX system is the most used piece of equipment used by personal trainers in the home. Personal trainers love using this because it is light and you can work out every body part with low risk of injury. The TRX system uses your own body weight to give you a workout while engaging the core. The TRX system requires a small amount of space and can attach to the door, tree or deck if you want to do your sessions outside. Exercises on the TRX are very easy to learn and the straps help you remain stable during certain movements.
Medicine ball
The medicine ball is something that personal trainers love to use during in home personal training sessions. Personal trainers like to use medicine balls for core training and to add a stability component to exercises like lunges, push-ups or squats. Some of the favorite exercises personal trainers do with a medicine ball is a lunge with a twist, rolling push-ups on the ball and mason or core twists. The medicine ball takes up minimal space and doesn’t require much skill to use.
Resistance bands
At home fitness trainers like the resistance bands because they’re easy to carry and we can train a lot of different muscles with them. Resistance bands can attach to the door or we can use them around the legs to work muscles around the hip joint. Many personal trainers will use bands to build strength in the shoulders and hips to prevent injuries during some of the more challenging workouts.
Kettle bell
Many in home personal trainers will bring a kettle bell because it’s easy to carry and can do a lot of different movements. We can give a client a good workout with plenty of resistance with one kettle bell. Some personal trainers will bring an adjustable kettle bell so they can change the weight while doing different exercises. The kettle bell is little harder to use than the other equipment listed above but a quality trainer will be able to help you learn the ropes.
Core sliders
Most of my clients have a love hate relationship with the core sliders. When they see, me walk in with these they usually sigh knowing the workout will be hard. After the workout, all my clients tend to be happy with how their core feels. Core sliders are mainly used for a core workout but can be used for the legs and chest too. Most core sliders are double sided allowing you to use them on carpet and hard wood.
