4 Reasons why water should be your best friend
We have all heard the advice “stay hydrated”, but do we really follow this golden advice regularly as we should? Water is essential for weight loss because of so many benefits it provides us. Our bodies are 60-65% water therefore our body needs it to function at an optimum level. A vast majority of people just assume that water is just to satiate their thirst and nothing else but little do they know that water has so many nutrients that aid the body in many things. Just because it has zero calories does not mean it should be underestimated.
So here are the 5 reasons why should start drinking more water to stay healthy:
- Boosts your workout
Drinking water at different intervals throughout the day is important but if you are working out, it is equally important that you take water breaks between your exercises as well. Many people don’t drink water until they really start to become super thirsty. This is usually when your body has already lost up to 2% of its water. Don’t wait till your body tells you to drink. If you are doing a heavy cardio session and sweating a lot, make sure to take some sips in between so that you don’t get dehydrated. This will make you stay energetic throughout your exercise. Just don’t gulp large amounts of water otherwise you might end up throwing up. Drink some water after half hour of your workout as well.
- Increases metabolism
Do you know that water powers up your calorie burning process? When you drink or eat anything, your body starts a process called dietary thermo-genesis. It is when your body works to break down and digest whatever you have consumed and this causes it to burn calories. The best part is that it also does the same process for water and not just food or other liquids. So if you drink more water, you are on your way to burning more calories. Research has shown that drinking up to 16 oz of water at a time can temporarily increase metabolism in people. So if you are drinking at least 8 glasses of water day, you can lose up to 210 calories.
- Substitute your mistaken hunger pangs
Many times people confuse their thirst with their hunger and go on snacking about on the wrong things. The reality is that most times it’s actually your body trying to tell you to drink more water. This is mainly because people get the same symptoms when they get hungry such as the stomach growling, energy loss, feeling light-headed etc. We only associate a dry throat with thirst and that’s why people end up eating instead of drinking. So the next time you feel hungry drink a glass or two of water and see if it makes a difference.
- A great substitute for other drinks
Water is a great substitute for all those unhealthy drinks that could be just empty calories you might be consuming. Cut back on soda, coffee and any high sugar juices and just drink good ol’ H2O.
So what are you waiting for? Get yourself a tall glass of water and drink your way to weight loss.
