Places to run in Fairfax, VA.
Are you looking for places to run in Fairfax?
Fairfax is a great place to be a runner. There are many places to run and I still haven’t hit all of them. Fairfax has a variety of trails that are ideal for running and biking that will keep you engaged. Most of the trails are built for any fitness level.
Here are my some of my favorite places to run in Fairfax.
Burke Lake
Running burke lake is a wonderful experience. I love that it’s a little cooler in the summer because of the shade and water. Burke lake also provides water fountains and restrooms which can come in handy during a longer run. The flat 4.5-mile loop is perfect for any runner training for any distance. If you need to add some more mileage you can run an extra loop or head down the side trail and run to south run Rec center.
The best time of year to run the lake is the fall when the leaves are changing.

Ox Road Trail
One of my favorite places to do long runs is along ox road because it goes on forever and there is plenty of space so that you won’t run into bikers. A great place to start the Ox road trail is at university mall by George Mason University. This trail is an ideal place to knock out a 15-20 mile run and if you want you can add a loop in at burke lake for some extra mileage. One of my favorite things about the Ox road trail is the gradual inclines and declines which mimic a lot of race courses.
Wakefield Park
Wakefield park is a great place for a run it provides 7 miles of trail with a lot of beautiful places to see. The trials change up and are a lot of fun. There is a Rec center nearby if you need to use a restroom and they also have vending for refreshments. Running at Wakefield is easy on the joints because of the dirt path and is great for all fitness levels.

Try to switch up the trails weekly to keep from getting bored. If you need a pair of running shoes I recommend Pacers running in Fairfax City.
