3 keys to success with a workout program

3 keys to success with a workout program

Posted by David Nickum Fitness programs, Exercise

Starting a workout program is one of the best things that you can do for your health. Having the right workout program is just as important as working out on its own. When picking out a program you need to find one that fits you. If running, biking or weight training is your thing then you should try that. We have put together 3 keys to success with a workout program to help you see results.

Pick a goal

If you don’t pick out a goal for your workout program, then you will fail. If you want to run a 5k or bench315 lbs. Great but the workouts will be different. Therefore, picking a goal is important to your program because doing bench press won’t help with your 5k time.

Write down things like how you want to look and feel. When you figure out how you want to look and feel it will be easier to pick out your program. Maybe you want to walk upstairs without getting winded you might want to add cardio into your program.

Pick a date for your goal and write it down because if you don’t set a deadline you will never get to the goal.

Plan your program

After you’ve picked out a goal it’s important to pick your plan for your program. If you want to run a 5k and you’ve never worked out, you might want to try a couch to 5k plan. If you’ve always wanted to lift weights but never tired it before it’s a good idea to hire a personal trainer to help you get started. If you can’t afford a trainer start with group classes at your local gym.

Finding a program that fits your goals is important because you don’t want to find a program that doesn’t match your fitness level. If you’re goal is running a 5k but you are doing mileage for a 10k you might end up over training. It’s important to pick a program that fits your goal and not to stray away from it too much.

Be Progressive

If you want to see results you need to be pushing yourself every week. If the program you pick isn’t progressive, you won’t see results. You need to add weight to the bar every week and run faster. Keep a journal to hold you accountable. If you write things down, you will see when you’re getting results and can keep doing what’s working. If you’re not writing things down, you will never know if what you’re doing is working. Playing a guessing game is not the best way to get results. With running, all the data is usually recorded and you will be able to see progress over time.

The take away

Picking a goal, planning and being progressive with your workouts will help you get in shape faster. Going to the gym without a plan is going to make you fall into a rut and you won’t feel like you’re getting results. If you don’t see results you will most likely quit your program.

About David Nickum

David S. Nickum is an inspirational fitness professional with over 10 years in the health and wellness industry. What he brings to any workout program is a deep understanding of anatomy, nutrition, and exercise physiology. His programs are unique, innovative, educational, and customized to get the job done quickly. He is a cutting edge professional who builds a program that fits your individualized goals. Starting out in the field of automotive technology industry, David had a lot of problems with pain in the lower back. This led him to the world of health and wellness. David was tired of getting prescribed pills to address his problems and he knew that physical therapy would only be a short-term fix, so he decided to learn about the human body to fix the problem on his own. Being a musician has helped David to also apply an artistic approach to health and wellness. He always told me; “exercise is an art just as much as a science”, he was right, every human is different and needs an artistic touch to get the most out of a workout. Throughout his career, David has developed a deep understanding about the human body. He started out only knowing the basics. Seven years later he has become a leader in the field of fitness, he designed his own style of training which works on posture, metabolism, pain management, and performance. After working with David my life has never been better, the pain in my body is gone for the first time in 10 years. After only 6 months of training I feel like a new person. I feel and look the best I have in years. He gave me the education and the tools I needed to prevent failure in the future. He gave me a new lease on life and I am thankful for that everyday.
